Designs focused on helping the lone logger and us older ones :)
| Background: I live on a three acre plot that is filled with very old and very large trees. Many of the trees have died. And as they die, of course, they need to be cleared out. Over the years, I have noticed that the lifting power of my log jacks has weakened considerably. Last year we needed a contractor to down a number of very large healthy trees that were threatening both our and our neighbor's home. Unfortunately, the contractor was unable to complete the job and left some 15 large trees on the ground. At 82, I was faced with the task of cleaning the mess up. By this time, my log jack couldn't even lift a large branch! Perhaps it was me... |

| I have 19 patents so far with more to come. So, faced with "necessity is the mother of invention", I went off and invented! The video to the right shows my patent pending solution to the "opportunity." As with all my inventions, the beginnings do not consider "pretty." In the first few proof of concept runs, weak points were deliberately made and I would go out and break the unit to learn. What you see here is the endpoint of my proof of concept phase. It truly is a usable concept. I cut, moved, and burned some 45,000 pounds of tree over the summer - alone. | ||

Some things I am thinking about: During development of ChainSavR, I destroyed a number of cant hooks. I did find one supplier that resells a very strong cut from alloy plate hook. But, for my purposes, the angle of the hook is wrong. I'm thinking of "solving" this. Also, the development didn't stop at just picking up trees. I had to cut them up as well. I came across a chain saw that is a monster. Foreign made, it has a few issues but it starts all the time and has minimal aspects to go wrong. Just the kind of tool I like. I'm going to investigate futher to see if I can offer this saw. (with the changes I think needed.) |
